Jim Canova
MetroED President

He represents the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) Board to MetroED. MetroED Term Expires: December 2013.

He was elected to the Santa Clara Unified School District Board in 1992 and his current term expires in November 2014. He owns and operates a service based business in the bay area. He attended Foothill College, studying Business Law & General Aviation. He works tirelessly in establishing Higher Academic Standards for more than 15,000 students including restoring Phonics instruction to the elementary grades, increased graduation requirements including Algebra and Foreign Language. He often refers to a quote from President Teddy Roosevelt (1899) "It is hard to fail, but worse never to have tried to succeed".
Cynthia Chang
MetroED Vice President

She represents the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District (LGSJUHSD) Board to MetroED and also serves as their President. MetroED Term Expires: December 2012.

Ms. Chang was elected to represent her home district to MetroED in December 2002. She was appointed to the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District Board in lieu of election in 1998 and 2002. She was reelected in 2006 and 2010 and her current term expires in 2014. She is a self-employed CPA and holds an MBA from California State University, Los Angeles. She is Past President of the Asian Pacific Islander School Boards Members Association and serves on the Executive Board of "Building Bridges," a Saratoga city-wide project
Daniel Bobay
MetroED Clerk

He represents the Milpitas Unified School District (MUSD) Board to MetroED. MetroED Term Expires: December 2012

He was first elected to the MUSD Board in November 2008 and his current term expires in November 2012. He was selected to represent MUSD to MetroED in January 2011. He serves as the MUSD President of the Board. Prior to his election, he attended PTA meetings and was involved with other community organizations such as the Kiwanis Clubs child spree, the School District's crab feed, PAL Soccer, and Rainbow Theater.
J. Manuel Herrera
MetroED Governing Board Member

He represents the East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD) Board to MetroED. He was elected to represent his home district to MetroED in December 2011. MetroED Term Expires: December 2013

J. Manuel Herrera is a native of San Jose, an alumni of William C. Overfelt High School. He attended the University of Pacific and received his Masters Degree in Urban Studies from Occidental College.

Herrera was elected to the ESUHSD Governing Board in 1990 and is the 2012 ESUHSD Board Clerk. Herrera is a Public Sector Consultant, working with bay area nonprofit agencies, local governments, and elected officials.

Mr. Herrera states, "First things first, a safe and orderly environment that supports learning the basics of secondary education, such as English, Math, and Science; second, students who are fluent in 21st Century information technology; and third, students who have learned life skills of working cooperatively in organizational teams and in a multicultural environment."

Rich Garcia
MetroED Governing Board Member

He represents the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD) Board to MetroED. MetroED Term Expires: December 2012.

He was first elected to the SJUSD Board in 1992 and his current term expires in November 2014. He is a marriage and family therapist and his children graduated from Leland and Lincoln High Schools. One son successfully completed the Culinary Arts Program at CCOC and is now a Chef in San Francisco. He is an active community member and also serves on their District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC) and as an alternate to their Bond Oversight Committees for Measures C and F.
Diane Gordon
MetroED Governing Board Member

She represents the Campbell Union High School District (CUHSD) Board to MetroED. MetroED Term Expires: December 2013.

She holds a BS in Business Administration from San Jose State University and is an esteemed local business woman. She resides in Los Gatos where she has been active with the Campbell Union High School District for many years. She graduated from Leigh High School where she continues to be an active fundraiser and volunteer. Diane is the recipient of the Fire Department of Santa Clara County's "Award of Merit" for Community Service. She also received the Leigh High School Volunteer of the Month award an unprecedented four times. Her term expires in November 2012.
