Credential Program

MetroED Teacher Credentialing Program offers credentialing services and educator preparation training both for adult and for career-technical education instructors throughout Northern California. In 1996, the program was authorized to issue Designated Subjects credentials in Vocational Education (currently Career-Technical Education (CTE-5 year), Adult Education (AE), Special Subjects (ROTC and Drivers Education), and Supervision and Coordination (AE and CTE). In 2011, MetroED was approved to offer the Career Technical Education 3 year credential to candidates who filed for their (CTE) credential after August 31, 2010. The Educator Preparation programs are available through MetroED LEA (San Jose Location), Napa Adult Education, and Santa Cruz County Office of Education. Click here for current schedule. Overview of Designated Subjects Teaching Credentials
Career Technical Education - Designated Subjects Credentials
Candidates may teach in Career Technical Education classes with or without a college degree. CTE instructors are required to attain a Designated Subjects CTE teaching Credential, and may complete the credential requirements while teaching. For information on the 5 year CTE (issued prior to 8/31/2010) credential module requirements click here. For information on the 3 year CTE (issued after 8/31/2010) credential module requirements click here. Note: The last date to clear a VOC/CTE 5 year full or part time credential is August 31, 2013 per the CTC.
Adult Education Credential
Candidates may teach in Adult Education classes while completing their credential requirements. In order to teach academic subjects to adults, the candidate must have a Bachelor's degree and pass the CBEST. For information on the Adult Education credential module requirements click here.
Supervision and Coordination Credential
The Supervision and Coordination Credential (S&C) is a mid-level management credential specifically for adult / career technical / vocational education. It allows the holder to serve as a coordinator, department chair, lead teacher, even, with the approval of the Board of Education, as vice principal of the designated subjects programs. It is occasionally used in some district level positions for coordination of programs.
We have staff available to assist individuals in obtaining a Preliminary (Adult, CTE 3 year), Special Subjects, and Supervision and Coordination) Clear (Adult, CTE 3 or 5 year, Special Subjects) or extensions.
