Metropolitan Education District - MetroED

MetroED is the largest career-oriented educational organization in Santa Clara County, comprised of high school and adult career technical, academic and community programs. MetroED annually provides 50,000 diverse students with the skills to help them be productive, income-earning and tax-paying contributors to Silicon Valley.

MetroEDs programs have a long history of providing high school and adult education to students in Santa Clara County.

MetroEDs high school program has deep roots in San Jose that began as San Jose Technical High School (1917 1958). The school (for boys only) was located on the site of San Jose High School. The school moved two times before becoming a Center on Hillsdale Avenue, where it has been located since 1968.

MetroEDs adult program probably had its beginnings in about 1870, called Night School. Prior to World War I, this was largely an evening high school to permit young adults to make up deficiencies in their earlier education.

To date MetroED continues to provide educational opportunities for adults and high school students within their designated districts. The District provides career technical education for high school and adult students (space-available basis) in the following districts: Campbell Union High School District, East Side Union High School District, Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, Milpitas Unified School District, San Jose Unified School District and Santa Clara Unified School District.

MetroED provides adult education for Campbell Union High School District and San Jose Unified School District.

MetroED was created as a joint powers authority by six school districts in Santa Clara County. We are governed by the six districts that comprise the joint powers; each of the six districts designates one of their elected board members to sit on the Metropolitan Education Districts Governing Board. MetroEDs programs are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and all teachers are credentialed by the State of California.
